SUMMER 2009 READING LISTS

Summer reading is an important tool to stay sharp over the break; therefore it is a requirement for all Hathaway School students.

Entering Grade 1*:
All students in grade 1 will be required to read (or be read to) one Mother goose book & 2 books (any title) from the following list of authors:

Asch, Frank
Brett, Jan
Brown, Margaret Wise
Carle, Eric
Geisel, Theodor (Dr. Seuss)
Henkes, Kevin
Marshall, Edward
Munsch, Robert
Rey, H.A.
Rylant, Cynthia
Shannon, David
Williams, Vera
Any poetry book of your choice

Products:
Students entering Grade 1 will draw pictures from the beginning, middle, and end of the 3 books they choose. Products are required and will be collected along with an oral presentation. Pictures stories along with an oral presentation will be calculated (two test grades) the first week of school.

 

Entering Grade 2:
Students are required to keep a summer journal. Each journal will include a minimum of 10 entries from events through out the summer. Each entry must be dated and include 3-5 sentences followed by an illustration of the event.

Entering grades 3 or 4:
Please select 2 books from the appropriate list of authors:
